So, just what is a Parametric EQ Overdrive?

When pedal makers set out to make an overdrive, as the creator, they usually decide which parts of the frequency band get "edited" when the player adjusts knobs like Lows, Mids, and Highs.

A Parametric EQ overdrive like the stellar Catalinbread Tribute allows you to pile on gain and set overall level, but it also puts YOU in control to decide via a dedicated knob which frequencies get boost or cut, which is also decided with a separate knob that controls the decibel level of the frequency selected.

So why would I want to do this? If your guitar, amp or even other pedals are pushing too hard on lows, you can cut them to balance things out. If you lack body in your overall signal, you can add low mids. If you are rehearsing with your band, you can find the exact point on the frequency spectrum in which your guitar suddenly pops out of the mix, usually in the high mids. And if you lack sparkle, you can find the exact type of high end that gets you stoked and gives your signal presence and air, but that does not create "icepick" for your ears. You can change the overall character of your amp by hitting it harder with gain and a selective emphasis on EQ level to boost harder. After all, aside from clipping style, this is what distinguishes most overdrives from each other.
