6. SOUNDBITE: (English) Benazir Bhutto, Former Pakistan Prime Minister and Leader of Pakistan People's Party:
"I feel very very emotional coming back to my country. I dreamt of this day for so many months and years. I counted the hours, I counted the minutes and the seconds, just to see this land, to see the grass, to see the sky. I feel so emotionally overwhelmed. I came down the stairs and the airline trade union was there to welcome me, and they waved their hands and I was just overwhelmed. And I hope that I can live up to the great expectations which people here have. And I feel so proud of the people of Pakistan, I feel so very proud of them. It hurts us when people say, the terrorists who come, whether they are bombing tubes in London, or whether they are plotting plots in Germany or doing things in other countries, (and) have their trail leading back (to Pakistan). That is not the real image of Pakistan. The people that you see outside are the real image of Pakistan. These are the decent hard working middle classes and working classes of Pakistan, who want to be empowered so they can build a moderate modern nation where everybody has equality. This is the real Pakistan and if we get democracy, this is the face of Pakistan the world will see. Not the face of the extremists who have thrived under dictatorships."

STORYLINE:
Benazir Bhutto made a dramatic return to Pakistan on Thursday, ending eight years of self-imposed exile to launch an ambitious political comeback, as tens of thousands of supporters gathered to greet her, amid massive security.
Bhutto, a two-time prime minster, was in tears as she descended the steps of a commercial flight that brought her from Dubai to Karachi, where jubilant crowds of flag-waving, drum-thumping supporters waited to give her a rousing welcome.
When an Associated Press reporter asked her how it felt to be home, she said she felt "very very emotional."
"I dreamt of this day for so many months and years. I counted the hours, I counted the minutes and the seconds, just to see this land, to see the grass, to see the sky. I feel so emotionally overwhelmed," she said.
"I hope that I can live up to the great expectations which people here have," she added.
The plane carrying Bhutto from Dubai touched down at about 13:45 local time (0845 GMT) in Karachi.
Ecstatic loyalists from her Pakistan People's Party (PPP) who were on board clapped and cheered wildly as the airliner's wheels hit the runway, drowning out the sound of the engines.
Bhutto then made her way slowly through the streets of Karachi, on top of an open-topped bus packed with her supporters, her route lined by ecstatic crowds.
Bhutto, who fled Pakistan in the face of corruption charges in 1999, has returned at a moment of uncertainty in this nuclear-armed nation, which is struggling to counter spreading Islamic militancy.
With parliamentary elections due in January, she hopes to campaign for a record third premiership.
But the precautions failed to deter her Pakistan People's Party from mounting a spirited street party.
