Why does what we teach children and young people about sex and sexuality continue to be so sensitive? Can we identify a peculiarly British approach to policy-making, and if so, what factors and concerns inform this?

Drawing on a sociological approach to examining the public and political debates over the last century, which take into account health, welfare, and education, Dr. Forrest suggests that there is continuity in our cultural fixation and concerns about these issues, and that by situating the current concerns in this narrative, we can better understand the ways that the argument is being sketched out, the basis for the positions being occupied by the main protagonists, and the scope for doing better in educating children and young people.
