President Cyril Ramaphosa and Deputy President David Mabuza are conducting an oversight visit to the Aspen Pharmacare sterile manufacturing company in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.
The visit is to focus on the progress in vaccine production, as part of the private sector and government partnership in the national vaccination programme.
Aspen Pharmacare collaborated with Johnson and Johnson in November last year, to establish the capacity required for the manufacturing of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.
The sterile facility contains high technology and facilities required to manufacture the sterile drugs and vaccines, and has the capacity to produce 300 million doses of the vaccine per annum.
