Emil Michael is the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering (USW(R&E)) and Chief Technology Officer of the War Department, overseeing DARPA and the Missile Defense Agency. A former White House Fellow and Special Assistant to the Secretary of War, he earned the Secretary of War Award for Outstanding Public Service. In the private sector, he helped build Tellme Networks, D-Wave Systems, and Uber, where he raised over $20 billion, launched UberMilitary, and advanced self-driving technology. His investments span AI, quantum computing, fintech, and logistics, reflecting his ability to anticipate and scale emerging technologies.
