Coupling of Elementary Electronic Excitations: Drawing Parallels Between Excitons and Plasmons

Описание к видео Coupling of Elementary Electronic Excitations: Drawing Parallels Between Excitons and Plasmons

The video presents the parallels possessed by the plasmonic and the excitonic systems, both in their isolated and assembled forms, with emphasis on lateral, longitudinal, and helical assemblies. Practiced by different schools of research, spectral properties of plasmonic and excitonic systems are often interpreted separately. A generalized picture of the exciton and plasmon coupling within the dipolar approximation is presented, which could be beneficial for several newer research initiatives. Plasmon coupling in assembled nanostructures leads to regions of enhanced electric field termed as hot spots. Approaches toward the design of universal plasmonic platforms that could be employed for the analysis of a variety of molecules of importance in health, environment, and safety are described.
