Creating a Custom Navigation Widget - October 2024

Welcome to our guide on adding a custom navigation widget to your iHouse Elite® website. This step-by-step tutorial is designed for website admins and content managers who need to expand their site's navigation capabilities.

Why Add a Custom Navigation Widget?

A custom navigation widget is beneficial when you want more headings than your main navigation bar can display (typically around six headings).

Steps to Add a Custom Navigation Widget

Step 1: Log into the Admin Menu
Begin by logging into your website's admin menu.
Once logged in, click on Edit Website.

Step 2: Enter Editing Mode
In editing mode, while viewing your homepage, click Edit this page located at the top right corner of the screen.

Step 3: Choose Widget Placement
Decide where to place your navigation widget. It's recommended to place it under the banner in a full column or one of the side columns. For this example, we’ll place it in a full column
Click Add New Content.
Select Create New Navigation Widget from the menu.
Then press Add This Content

Step 4: Configure Your Widget
After pressing Add this content, click Edit on the right.
In the widget's editing screen, give your widget a name.
Add navigation links by choosing from three types:
Page: An existing page on your website.
Form Dialog: A form from within your website.
URL: Any external URL you want to include.
Note: For Pages, Ensure the page is published if it's not listed as an existing page option.

Step 5: Save and View Changes
Once you've added your desired navigation links, press Save.
To view your changes, press Back to Website at the top of your screen.

Step 6: Edit the Widget (Optional)
To rearrange or delete items, go back into editing mode.
Hover over your custom navigation widget and press the edit arrow.
Alternatively, press Edit this page from the homepage view, locate the widget, and press Edit next to it.
