The University of Ghana and the Ghana Navy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance maritime domain awareness through the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) and Africa programme. The agreement, formalized by Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, Chief of Naval Staff, and Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, aims to address significant challenges such as illegal fishing, pollution, and smuggling. The collaboration emphasizes the importance of leveraging scientific research and technological innovation to protect maritime resources and promote sustainable development. The Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation highlighted the government's commitment to supporting academia-industry collaborations, while Dr. Tidiane Ouattara, President of the African Space Council, expressed hope for similar collaborations across the continent to ensure sustainable economic growth and security.
