In a world where design and architecture often revolve around form and function, It is rather critical to reflect on the deeper essence of space — the metaphysical. In my opinion, the absence of the metaphysical renders the physical vain and obsolete. Research shows that space isn't just void and mass, light and shadow...space carries a spiritual dimension that imbues meaning beyond mere utility.

What does this mean?
Well, lets consider the cosmos: planets moving in perfect synchrony, swirling around black holes. To some, this may echo the movement in Mecca, where people circle the Kaaba — a motion rich with spiritual resonance. This rhythmic motion is believed to connect humanity to the vast, mysterious forces of the universe. As an example, let's consider the historic typological courtyard, spaces that have stood the test of time. This central void is more than a place for light or circulation; it’s a vessel where the "spirit of God dwells". This metaphysical presence is what gives these spaces their enduring power and tranquillity, in my opinion!

Designing with the Unseen in Mind:
The next time you embark on designing a project, try and experiment designing with an awareness of the metaphysical; this may enable you to create spaces that nurture the soul, not just serve a function. By reconnecting with this dimension, you may be able to shape environments that inspire, heal, and elevate; places where people can truly belong.
