Massive Tumor Biopsy at Las Vegas Dermatology

In this video, you will see a discussion and shave excision biopsy of a massive tumor. John was scared to leave his home except for work for 2 years because of his fears over the novel corona virus. As a result of not being properly evaluated or treated, the lesion on his arm continued to grow into a friable, purulent, bleeding and painful tumor. Because he was starting to feel more comfortable with leaving his home and because the tumor was now bleeding and even more bothersome, John came to Las Vegas Dermatology and Dr. H.L. Greenberg for evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of his Left Forearm skin growth.

Thankfully, we had the time on John’s initial visit to entirely remove what looks to be the great majority of the tumor. The tissue has been sent to the Dermatopathologist for evaluation. More surgery may be required once we have a proper diagnosis- basal or squamous cell cancer seems to be the most likely diagnosis, but other possibilities include wart or even melanoma.

Dr. Greenberg is a Board Certified Dermatologist practicing in Las Vegas. In the video, you will see the entire process of a lesion being removed using a double edged razor blade to the superficial fat. The area is prepped and cleansed with a surgical scrub. Lidocaine with epinephrine is used to anesthetize the tissue, and a hyfercator is used to burn the base of the excised area to stop the bleeding. All that remains of the biopsy site is a clean base the size of the tumor that was removed.
