Please join the Atlantic Council on Monday, November 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for the next event in our Defense-Industrial Policy Series, featuring Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Eric Chewning.

Release last month of the Administration's Report to the President on the defense-industrial base--Assessing and Strengthening the Manufacturing and Defense industrial base and Supply Chain Resiliency of the United States--focuses attention on a number of its shortcomings and vulnerabilities which could adversely affect military preparedness and performance. Shoring up fragile nodes in the supply chain and incentivizing the development of capabilities which the National Defense Strategy identifies as differentiating to future military capabilities remains an imperative. However, neither the Report to the President nor the Strategy addresses in great detail exactly how the Pentagon and whole of government are going to respond. Accordingly, it is the purpose of this event to drill into the nuts and bolts of defense-industrial policies.

A distinguished panel, moderated by Senior Fellow Steve Grundman, will tackle the question:
Eric Chewning, the deputy assistant secretary of defense for industrial policy, is a principal author of the Report and exponent of defense-industrial policy in the Administration.
Caralynn Nowinski Collens, CEO of UI Labs, an innovation accelerator which sponsors the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute.
Arun Seraphin, professional staff member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, where his portfolio of responsibility includes acquisition policy, science and technology programs, technology transition issues, defense laboratories, and manufacturing programs.
Jeff Wilcox, vice president for digital transformation at Lockheed Martin, and chairman of the NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership National Advisory Board and a member of its Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Board.
The Defense-Industrial Policy Series is a platform for senior government executives in defense and aerospace to address the public policies that shape these industries' markets. By engaging the perspective of government leaders about issues at the interface of defense ministries and industries, the series aims to cultivate a constituency for practical solutions to these problems.
