Nigel Ruwende is a fashion designer from London, UK. Her travels to Toronto to experience diversity of the city and design a jacket inspired by Canada's largest city.

In search of fashion design inspiration, Nigel shares his basic design process.

Step 1: Put it down on Paper. There is so much stimulation and energy in the city of Toronto. Nigel always carries a sketchbook to write down his thoughts, ideas, words, and other notes that will help him towards his fashion design objective.
Step 2: Partake in experiences. When designing a new piece of fashionwear, it is important to experience what the city has to offer. In Toronto, Nigel sees great use of fabrics at local Toronto fashion store, Kotn. At Sole Survivor, Nigel experiences the relationship between old and new. Walking around the outside of the CN Tower, gives Nigel the confidence to go after what he wants.
Step 3: Ideas start to reveal themselves. Reviewing all of the experiences, patterns and palettes start to come to mind that will help shape his Toronto jacket.
Step 4: Enjoy the journey. It is important to value the design process of creating a new article of clothing. Sometimes the beauty is more in the journey then it is in the final piece.
Step 5: Showcase creation. One of the best parts of the process to Nigel is revealing the final product and sharing the stories behind the design.
