Weeley Festival, Clacton, England
August 28th, 1971

Audience Recording
Quality: B

Along with Bern, this show is definitely an essential listen for 1971. Not only is it a full festival set but it also features the only recording (maybe even performance) of “I Once Wrote Some Poems” during a Van der Graaf show. However, Hammill would play the song a few times in the early 70s himself, but not much. This version of “Killer” is Killer. The vocals are intense throughout the entire show, and the band plays to match this energy. Van der Graaf were not the only band to play at this festival, but I have no doubt they had the best performance. King Crimson’s set was also partially recorded, though it’s both a worse tape and worse performance.
