In this video, we break down the latest developments in Iran’s nationwide protests and the escalating geopolitical confrontation between the United States and Russia — triggered in part by former U.S. President Donald Trump’s dramatic message of support to Iranian demonstrators.

Anti-government protests have erupted across all 31 provinces of Iran, driven by deep economic hardships, skyrocketing inflation, and a harsh government crackdown that has reportedly resulted in thousands of deaths and mass arrests. Despite an extended internet blackout, human rights groups estimate that more than 2,000 protesters have been killed and tens of thousands detained.

In a bold public statement on social media, Trump addressed the Iranian people directly, urging them to “keep protesting” and “take over your institutions”, adding that “help is on its way.” While he did not specify what form that help would take, his remarks signaled a hardline shift in U.S. policy, including the cancellation of all diplomatic meetings with Iranian officials until the violence stops.
