Once upon a time, a young Hainanese boy migrated from China to Singapore by sea alongside his dad. Upon arrival to Singapore, the 12 year old boy started to work for a Nyonya Lady. His obedience & hardworking attitude has earned him the love of the Nyonya lady, whom even offered him to be his god son. However, the boy refused but the Nyonya lady still insist to teach him, her secret recipe & technique to cook Nyonya Curry Rice.

Not long later, the boy got an offer to work in a petite oil-town of Borneo, called Miri. He took that offer & settled down in Miri since then for good. Uncertain of other forms of business, the young man (now) was only confident to start up a hawker stall selling curry rice (that he learnt from the Nyonya lady). That year was 1938. Two years later, Japanese troops invaded & took control over Miri. Business was forced to end abruptly.

After the war ended, the young man decided to re-boot the stall & called it “Ah Sheng’s Curry Rice”. Due to financial constraints, he couldn’t afford to hire outside worker but instead, rely solely on his wife initially and then, his elder daughter (the old lady chopping chicken in the video highlight), whom has started assisting his late dad since 8years old till today. Isn’t she a living “Legend”?!
