"ESMERALDERO - The Colombian emerald"

We are happy to invite you to discover a new field video on "Field Gemology by Vincent Pardieu".

During a field expedition in Oct 2018 we visited the different emerald producing area in Colombia from Penas Blanches to Coscuez, Muzo, Gachala and finally Chivor in order to collect reference samples for the "Bahrain Institute for Pearls & Gemstones (DANAT)".

Emeralds mining in Colombia started before the arrival of the European during the 16th century. For the past 500 years it has produced so many fine emeralds that it is now the most famous emerald producing area in the world. That field expedition that followed the Second World Emerald Symposium in Bogota Colombia was my very first visit to Colombia. I've to say that discovering Colombia we were amazed by the landscapes, the people, the food and of course the emeralds. We were feeling very privileged to have been able to spend few days with the emerald people of Colombia and with their support to have been able to collect good reference samples for the "Bahrain Institute for Pearls & gemstones (DANAT)".
