Join me as I document my journey to Hawaii for the 2024 Honolulu Marathon! The adventure begins with some travel chaos as my supplements get flagged during TSA screening, but we’re off to Honolulu. Upon arrival, carb loading starts immediately with some delicious local eats, including poke, spam musubi, tuna onigiri, pineapple, and cucumber kimchi. We settle into our cozy Airbnb, and I give a quick tour of our small but comfortable space.

This marathon weekend is special, as I aim for an ambitious 3:30 finish time. My fitness tracker predicts 3:35, so we'll see how it plays out. Grocery shopping at Don Quijote is a highlight, with Faith and I stocking up on carb-heavy foods like sourdough bread, bananas, and sweet potatoes. After a chill first evening, I hit the pavement for an easy 4.5-mile shakeout run the next morning, enjoying stunning views of Honolulu.

The Honolulu Marathon Expo is a runner's paradise! I pick up my bib and merch, check out some deals, and grab a race shirt that I’m excited to wear. Fueling up remains a priority, with meals like udon, tempura, and more musubi keeping me energized. My marathon nutrition strategy is dialed in—five gels spaced throughout the race, with an extra on standby.

On day three, I take part in the Merrie Mile, a fun and festive pre-race event. I meet up with the Runna team, and we tackle the mile together. Post-race, I’m surprised with an amazing swag bag from Runna, featuring cool gear, a shirt Faith loves, and even headphones. Afterward, I focus on staying off my feet, hydrating, and continuing to carb up with meals like a breakfast burrito and pancakes.

I wrap up the day with the classic flat-lay shot of all my race essentials, thanks to Faith's photography expertise. My pre-race meal is an Italian feast of pasta and pizza to fuel me for the big day. This entire trip has been about finding joy in the journey, preparing my mind and body for the challenge ahead, and soaking up the energy of this incredible event.
