Clothes Shopping and Homemade Stuff ║ Large Family Shop with Me │ April 2019

In this video, Tom and I went to Pizza Hut for our monthly date night. (This was the first time since Hannah's birth that we left her home on date night. We were both kind of sad about that, but it was a long night so I'm glad she was home.) During our dinner, the kids called and Miss Claudia was full of tattling stories. We then stopped at Home Depot before commencing our monthly Walmart shopping trip. (We shop weekly at our local grocery store as well as ordering some things in bulk and we also eat food we've preserved from our garden.) We've continued to work to lower our spending for our family of 11. This month I bough ingredients to make some of our things at home. It's such a learning process to find recipes that work and change habits to being a producer of what we need rather than a consumer. It's kind of stressful making these changes, but also satisfying and fun. I've failed miserably at making liquid dish soap, but I haven't given up yet. My laundry pods and dishwasher pods have worked well. I made a bunch of coconut oil laundry soap bars to use in future batches of laundry soap pods. It was such an easy method that I'm happy to continue making them in the future. Dried cheese powder was a marginal success, along with the chocolate; I'll be getting a gift for my birthday next month that I'm hoping will make both of those foods better as we go along. I sewed a batch of small cotton towers to use in place of some of our paper towels. Those work fine and I'm going to make many more next month and the month after so we'll eventually have 72 of them. We haven't tried the homemade hairspray yet since we haven't run out of our store-bought spray, but the homemade cooking spray has been a success. The homemade school glue works really well, but I'm not sure about storage so that's something to continue working on. My corn tortillas were a flop. (I make flour tortillas all the time and I'm sure I'll improve on the corn ones.) I was really happy with my herbal pain relievers. I also made some herbal cold and virus pills that kept me from getting the sickness that has swept through our community recently. Finally, the chips I made have been a resounding success. Tom makes everyone try them because he loves them so much. They're tasty! (Oh, and I also made washing soda and baking powder.) As I get better at making things, I'll start sharing recipes.

This month we also got our spring and summer clothes. I'll have a video coming out with the clothes haul after I finish the sewing that I'm doing for the girls.
