As the drummer leader of my Ken Loomer Big Band, I get to do one feature drum solo that I want to be dynamic and exciting. This is an open type drum solo where I get to do my own composing on the drums and cymbals. I start out at the same tempo as the song I was playing "Love For Sale", then go into different tempo`s and playing around the classic Slingerland drum set with it`s great open tone sound. At one point during the solo I`m just playing the Zildjian cymbals. I`m using many types of drum techniques like finger control and crossovers of the cymbals for some dynamic playing. I build up the solo to a powerful finish before bringing in the swinging Big Band to end this showcase arrangement. Always great for me to play with these outstanding jazz musicians and do these concerts.
