December 23, 1988 - Not even two months into their franchise's existence, the Charlotte Hornets got their signature win. Tied at 101 with the game clock dwindling, it was Los Angeles Lakers transplant Kurt Rambis who was able to cash in a game-winning layup as the buzzer sounded, handing the Hornets a 103-101 victory over the Chicago Bulls.

Rambis finished with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals, 3 assists, and 6 turnovers.

Vintage Rules Note: Prior to the 1992-93 season, the 24-second shot clock would reset any time the ball hit the rim OR the backboard. In this case, Rambis' initial deflection—sending the ball careening off the backboard—reset the shot clock and allowed him to complete the game-winner without committing a violation.
