“Ultramontano” is a well-known song of the Cristeros from the time of the Communist Revolution in Mexico in the 1920s. The government was strongly anti-Catholic and shut down churches, arrested, and killed many priests and Catholic faithful for practicing their Faith and the brave Cristeros fought to defend their Faith and country against a tyrannical regime.
The name of the song means “ultramontane”, another name for Catholic, which was used in the past in opposition to the Gallican heretics who did not believe in the power of the papacy and were condemned in Vatican Council I while the “ultramontanists”, or simply Catholics, who believed in and defended Papal Infallibility, were proven right.
The song was a call to action for Catholics to fight for their Faith and defend the Church against such vile and ruthless blasphemies and bold attacks. It became an anthem of the Cristeros that summed up their cause in six verses, inspiring timid souls to stand up and bolstering the courage of the strong.

This music video is a compilation of historical pictures from the Cristero War and scenes from the movie “For Greater Glory,” along with clips of the singer.
