Since Jan 2 this year, the ringgit has weakened about 2 per cent against the Singapore dollar.

Today, it hit another new low of 3.5725 to the Singapore dollar.

Center for Market Education CEO Dr Carmelo Ferlito says the ringgit's continued decline against the Singapore dollar is due to a few factors.

This includes the narrower interest differentials between the US and SIngapore interest rates compared with Malaysia.

This makes Singapore more appealing for capital inflows than Malaysia.

There is also higher demand for the Singapore dollar during times of uncertainty, as it serves as a ‘mini-dollar’ for the region.

Ferlito says Malaysia's unclear policy direction with delays in implementing reforms contribute to economic uncertainties which affect the ringgit.
