Kolmanskuppe - Die Geisterstadt in der Namib Wüste von Namibia

Kolmanskuppe ist eine Geisterstadt in Süden von Namibias in der Nähe der Hafenstadt Lüderitz mitten in der Wüste Namib. Die Siedlung wurde - aufgrund des Vorkommens von Diamanten in der Gegend - Anfang des 19. Jahrhundert gegründet . Sie ist praktisch mitten in der Wüste entstanden, es gab kein Wasser, keine Erde und auch keinen Regen - nur Sand und Hitze und noch dazu kamen regelmäßig Sandstürme. Trotzdem erreichte die Stadt in seiner Blütezeit bis zu 400 Einwohner. Kurzzeitig galt Kolmanskuppe sogar als die 'reichste Stadt Afrikas', jedoch wurde nach etwas über 20 Jahren bereits wieder der Diamantenabbau eingestellt und somit wurde die Stadt von den meisten Bewohnern bereits wieder verlassen.

Die Stadt wurde damit der Nature und dem Sand überlassen und dementsprechend interessant ist es heute durch die Häuser zu streifen - für Fotografen bieten sich dabei unendliche viele Möglichkeiten. Um die Stadt besichtigen zu können ist ein Eintritt erforderlich - noch interessanter ist ein Besuch außerhalb der offiziellen Öffnungszeiten. Dafür kann man sich in Lüderitz eine spezielle Genehmigung einholen und damit die Stadt vor Sonnenaufgang besuchen. Und genau das haben wir gemacht - aber seht selbst.

Kolmanskop is a ghost town in the south of Namibia near the port city Lüderitz in the middle of the Namib desert. The settlement was founded at the beginning of the 19th century due to the presence of diamonds in the area. It was practically created in the middle of the desert, there was no water, no soil and also no rain - only sand, heat and sandstorms came regularly. Nevertheless, the city reached up to 400 inhabitants in its heyday. For a short time Kolmanskop was even considered the 'richest city in Africa', but after a little over 20 years diamond mining was stopped already and most of the residents left the town.

The city was then left to nature and the sand. These days it is very interesting to stroll through the houses - there are endless possibilities for photographers. Admission is required to visit the city - a visit outside of the official opening times is even more interesting. For this you can get a special permit in Lüderitz and thus visit the city before sunrise. And that's exactly what we did - but see for yourself.
