Best Way To Store Hard Wax

What’s the best way to store my wax?

I always recommend storing your wax out of direct sunlight, i.e. a cabinet, closet, etc. Ideally, it's best to keep it sealed as too much moisture or humidity is the next factor that will shorten the life of hard wax. You can always keep it in the bag/package that it comes in, like these resealable bags that Mermaid Wax comes in. Or you can choose to use a container like my metal storage container which holds 11 lbs of wax. Additionally, I’ve also seen other Estheticians use a large metal trash can so they can put a ton of wax in at once and don’t have to restock it often. Really smart idea! Any sealed or semi-sealed container will do; plastic tub, jar, can, bag, whatever.

If you leave your wax in direct sunlight, it can and will cause your wax to discolor. This should NOT hurt your wax functionally, it’s just color. I've left wax out on a table for a couple of months and sunlight got to it and it basically all the color went away. I don't know if it still worked because I threw it away, but it was an interesting learning lesson. Hindsight 20/20 I would have just used it -especially if I had a color bomb! ;)

The last thing to keep in mind is temperature! This one is HUGE!! Make sure you store your wax in a climate controlled environment. Please don’t go sticking your wax in a garage or somewhere that doesn’t have air conditioning because I promise you, it will melt and stick together. Or even worse, it will greatly reduce the shelf life. Too much heat over long periods will definitely degrade the ingredients. It will likely always work, but you’ll lose characteristics like flexibility. Room temperature is fine, but a little colder than room temperature is better. However, it's designed to get warm so even up to 100+ degrees it's still going to last for months. If your wax does get too warm and starts to stick together, don’t worry! Put the wax in your freezer for 10-20 minutes and then take it out and slam it on the ground. The wax will break apart like frozen peas. Bonus; Don’t ever leave your warmer on 24/7. Not only is this an obvious fire hazard, it WILL mess the wax up! I see you!!! I know more of you are guilty of this than you want to admit. Don’t do it.
