Описание к видео Layering Eyeshadows, Cheeks, & Lips w/ Pumpkin & Poppy's One Ring Collection

This is my "debrief" tutorial on my Shadow of the Week--the Pumpkin & Poppy One Ring Collection. This week was all about layering--eyeshadows, cheek color, lip color, even highlights.

The Shadow of the Week is my version of Face of the Week or Shop My Stash or Makeup Bag of the Week. (Here's the video that shows the original plan:    • Shadow of the Week: Pumpkin & Poppy One Ri...   ) Basically, I choose a shadow--or a collection--to play with through the whole week, and then I make a tutorial talking about the product, the various looks, etc.

I'm also finishing up product with toxins and replacing them with natural & organic options. The look in this video is 100% paraben-free & phenoxyethanol-free. I'm trying to educate myself as well about animal testing issues.

A word about me: I'm in my 50s, and I work at a research university by day. I play "makeup professor" as a hobby. I am not an expert; I'm a cosmetic user, a customer. These reviews express my reasoned opinions, based on my personal criteria and preferences. I respect that others will have different criteria and different preferences. Life isn't uniform or simple, but in its diversity and complexities, it's beautiful.

My New Year's Resolution was to use products that (a) are relatively healthy, (b) have anti-aging ingredients if possible, and (c) are paraben-free. It's been a work in progress & a learning experience. In the last few weeks, I've been diving into the issues surrounding cosmetics and animal testing.

Currently, I'm focusing on what I think of as "faux parabens," those products that have been used in lieu of parabens. It turns out that ingredients like phenoxylethanol are no better than parabens; they are arguably even worse. At best, phenoxyethanol is an antibacterial preservative that might cause irritation of skin and lungs. At worst, it could impact internal organs and is a potential neurotoxin. Some believe that its current levels of use in cosmetics are safe. Others argue either that no level of toxins is acceptable or that phenoxyethanol is in too many products that we use everyday.

Who is "right"? I'm not sure, but have chosen to err on the side of caution, limiting the number of products that contain phenoxyethanol and limiting the frequency with which I use them. My strong preference is for cosmetics that are Paraben-free AND Phenoxyethanol-free. It's been pretty easy to go paraben-free; there are so many paraben-free products available now! It is very difficult to go phenoxyethanol-free. At the moment, I'm going for the more modest goal of limiting the number of products with phenoxyethanol that I use. I do not use phenoxyethanol products around the mouth area.
