Описание к видео 3 Lessons from Mirrors for Presentations

I'm giving you 3 lessons I learned from mirrors for presentations on this week's episode of MasterTalk. Visit https://www.rockstarcommunicator.com/ to attend one of my FREE LIVE online trainings.

1. As speakers, we reflect our own emotions onto everyone else around us so choose carefully. (1:01)

Think about it. When you look at the mirror in the morning and you’re getting ready for the day, you could say something like wow, this day’s great, I got work meetings to go, dinner with my family and I get to watch Brenden speak on communication, this day’s fantastic and that positive energy that starts your day is reflected onto everyone else around you – friends, family, colleagues and most importantly, your audiences.

But.

The opposite is also true. This day SUCKS. I got to watch Brenden in this video, get dinner with my family again eh… and talk to my colleagues at work, and that same mirror you looked at yesterday, you’ll say something different and that negative energy will also get projected onto everyone else around you – friends, family, colleagues, and audience.

So, what’s the punchline?

The punchline is that as speakers, we ARE mirrors. We project our own emotions onto everyone else around us. If we look bored out of our minds, our audience will feel that too, they’ll say eh, well I guess this is another one of those presentations, but if we show up with positivity and reassurance, our audience will feel that too. So, which emotions will you choose? And that choice is entirely yours.

2. Your presentations begin the moment you look at yourself in the mirror in the morning. (2:37)

For those who don’t know, one of the rituals I do, for my most important presentations, is I buy a new suit and make sure it’s all ready to go the night before. Why? Because you need to enter the right state of mind long before the actual presentation. The way I do this is by getting all dressed up early in the morning and just staring into the mirror for a few minutes.

When I see myself in a clean new suit I never used in a presentation before, my eyes gleam and I smile as I look in the mirror since I’m extremely clear and focused on the ONE goal for the day; be the best presenter in the room and deliver as much value as possible.

The lesson here is to leverage the mirrors in your life to give yourself a confidence boost before you step out for your presentations for the day. It’s a moment in time that is quiet, where no one else is watching you, but yourself and a great time to do a little self-talk and say, that this presentation is going to be amazing, I’ve prepped months for this day, so let’s deliver and do a phenomenal job.

3. Mirrors reflect who you once were, who you are today and who you want to become. (4:01)

When I look back at the beginning of my public speaking journey at 19, one of my first competitions for some executives of a big company, I was wearing an oversized tie and suit, I looked pretty ridiculous, since I couldn’t really afford much else, but overtime, as my outfits and my public speaking ability improved, the way I felt when I looked in the mirror every moment before I presented, I felt better and better about what I was going to accomplish in that day and also the next time around.

I encourage you all to spend a couple extra seconds to acknowledge yourself and how far you’ve become in that morning where no one else is looking, because if you take that time to celebrate the wins and how far you’ve come whether it’s looking a bit sharper or being a bit better at communication, you’ll start to imagine who you want to see in the mirror next time and I don’t mean that physically, I also mean that psychologically, so use mirrors not just as an object to get ready for the day, but to acknowledge the journey that you’re taking in your life as you get older and see yourself evolve into the person you’re meant to become.

Much like William has taught, the world is a looking-glass, the way you show up for others, is the way others will show up for you, so use the figurative mirrors in your life to project the right intentions onto others to receive the rewards and goals you’re seeking.
