Velsharoon, the god of necromancy for the Forgotten Realms. His rise to power is not entirely unlike that of Vecna, but, while Vecna rose to power on Oerth, Velsharoon rose out of the nation of Thay on a mission to find a pathway to immortality for all mortal beings. Certainly a compelling evil power, an interesting cult-like faith for your world building within the continent of Faerun in the most detailed setting for the Dungeons and dragons roleplaying game.
