Riding Behind ATSF 3751 from Los Angeles to San Bernardino HD

Watch in High Definition! Here's the first of my videos from the San Bernardino Railroad Days on April 27th and 28th, 2013. I had the privilege of being a crew member on the Tioga Pass Private Car, the ex. Canadian Pacific Business Car that made up the rear of the excursion train that accompanied the event. The excursion train was pulled by ATSF 3751, the ex. Santa Fe 4-8-4 Northern Steam Locomotive owned by the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society. Trailing it were Metrolink F59PH 873, Private Car Pony Express, an Amtrak Horizon Car, and Private Cars Acoma, Overland Trail, and Tioga Pass.

The excursion began on Saturday, April 27th at 10:00. The excursion train departed Los Angeles Union Station bound for San Bernardino Station via the Metrolink San Gabriel Subdivison. I was on the Tioga Pass to film much of the trip to San Bernardino. The train arrived in San Bernardino as the event was in full swing. The train was then opened for walking tours.

This video contains all the videos of the trip from Los Angeles to San Bernardino. The train with ATSF 3751 at the point is first seen sitting in Los Angeles Union Station, waiting to depart. We then departed for San Bernardino. One major point of interest along the way is the stretch of tracks in the middle of the I-10 Freeway. Cars with all assortments of railfans and cameras were chasing the train along the freeway. At one point, we even see a highway patrol cruiser zooming by, presumably to catch someone. In reality, it was just trying to get ahead of the train so the trooper could get a video of it going by. :-)

We also meet a Union Pacific Intermodal along the LA river and a Metrolink Train in Covina.

This was a great beginning to the event! Stay tuned for more videos from my awesome weekend aboard the Tioga Pass and at San Bernardino Railroad Days.

A special thanks also goes to Norm Orfall, the owner of the Tioga Pass, who graciously welcomed me as a crew member to accompany him on the trip. I truly enjoyed the experience.

Enjoy!
