Prime Minister Kaja Kallas gave an overview of the dire situation in Ukraine, particularly in the flow of refugees out of Ukraine. “The aim of Putin is to terrorise populations, we have seen it in Grozny and other places and now it is taking place in Mariupol and Kyiv,” said Prime Minister Kaja Kallas. To this end, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas proposed that the crisp response given by the EU in the past weeks needs to be consolidated and built upon.

“This will be a success for the rule of law,” said Prime Minister Kaja Kallas adding that support must also extend to the European Court of Justice. The Estonian PN said that the dependence on Russian energy must decrease and the EU energy grid must be synchronized.

Turning to the defence and security of the EU, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said that the EU needs to bolster these two aspects. The 2% of the GDP allowance, said Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, must be the absolute minimum and defence must be emphatically strengthened in conjunction with NATO.
