With the fourth episode, “The Winemaker Interview,” in the can as they say in Hollywood when a movie is ready for release, our knowledge of winemaking has exploded. Award-winning winemaker of Williamsburg Winery in Virginia, Matthew Meyer dropped a slew of knowledge bombs on the intricacies of winemaking in the show. We learned about mountain fruit vs. valley floor fruit, vigonier grapes, albariño wine, his stint at prestigious Heitz Cellars in Napa and how he consulted NASA (yes, NASA) on atmospheric conditions before moving forward with a new wine. Yes, we talked a lot about the weather in this episode and learned that Matthew has six weather apps on his phone. But who does this master winemaker really trust when it comes to the weather forecast for his grapes. Well, you are going to have to watch to find out.

Unfortunately Mike’s audio started to suffer in the middle of the interview but do not let that deter you from this epic education into winemaking from one of Virginia’s most prominent winemakers. Besides and much to everyone’s liking, Matthew does the vast majority of the talking in this show. Matthew’s wife, Elena, who heads up marketing for Williamsburg Winery also joined the interview to talk shop and there was even a surprise visit from a local Elvis impersonator who runs the VFW hall where the interview was held. Given that this was such a special episode thanks to Matthew and his delicious wines, Mike and Dan decided at the end of the show that Williamsburg Winery warrants a visit. We could not think of a better place to tape our first winery Vlog.
