When we talk about discrete headphone amp the Sound BlasterX AE-5 sound card and DAC with Xamp delivers excellent audio quality.
One thing to note when you are looking to buy the best sound card or just looking for sound card in general you will need to have good speakers or headphones if you want to experience what was intended for you to hear weather you are playing games or just watching a movie.

One thing that I have seen people search is Will a new sound-card reduce CPU load when we are looking at the question Does a soundcard really help take off CPU load in my case after testing out this Creative Sound BlasterX AE-5 sound-card I did not notice any big difference in CPU load weather I was playing games or just playing music.

Also another question came up while searching is Will a sound card reduce my latency, it can help on that area but you do need to have other PC components up to date such as a good CPU to be able to take advantage of that.
