In wake of the persisting pollution blanket all over the north belt since Diwali has sent scare signals among environmentalists. There has been a steep increase in cases of cough, bronchial gallery and other respiratory problems. On Thursday, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) said it's worst situation since 17 years. On Friday a review meeting was called by the Environment Ministry which was attended by chief secretaries of Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave informed that situation will be monitored closely and action will be initiated.

Environment Secretary A.N. Jha informed that a consensus has been reached by all the members who have agreed to review the brick kilns spreading pollution and close them if required.

Well, one only hopes that all these convictions dose not fall flat and steps to curb the air pollution is initiated before things gets out of control. As per official data, the levels of PM2.5 (particulate matters with diameter less than 2.5 mm) have increased by 62.7 per cent on Wednesday, two days after Diwali.
