Boston is mourning the loss of a trailblazer. Sarah-Ann Shaw, the first Black woman to report on TV news in the city, died March 21st, age 90. Shaw was one of the first on-air correspondents on GBH’s “Say Brother,” now known as Basic Black, and in 1969 she broke barriers when she became a reporter for WBZ-TV, starting what would become a more than 30-year career, at the height of the civil rights movement, and Boston’s busing crisis. Two of Sarah-Ann Shaw’s longtime colleagues, Marita Rivero on “Say Brother,” and Ron Mitchell at WBZ-TV, joined Gautam Mukunda to discuss her legacy, and the contributions she made to journalism, the city, and its Black community.
