Knafeh is a Middle Eastern dessert with a shredded filo dough crust, a sweet cheese filling, topped with a rose water flavored simple syrup. This knafeh recipe is made with Akkawi cheese. Even though it looks daunting, this Arabic dessert can be very easily made at home with a few ingredients on a stove top, without the oven.
Ingredients:
Cheese: 150 gms or 5 Oz
you can use half and half mix of akkawi and any string cheese
or you can use mozzarella cheese
shredded phyllo dough or kataifi or kadayif - 150 gms or 5 oz
sugar-1/2 cup
water- 1/2 cup
rose essence- few drops
lemon- few drops
pistachios-2 tbs
ghee - 3 tbsp
