Sasikala’s counsel too visits Commission

The Justice (retd.) A. Arumughaswamy Commission of Inquiry, which is looking into the death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, on Thursday examined Sheela Balakrishnan, who had served as her adviser and Chief Secretary.

This is the second time that Ms. Balakrishnan was deposing before the Commission. Her testimony to the Commission on December 20, 2017, was incomplete. Ms. Balakrishnan left the Kalas Mahal premises, which houses the offices of the Commission, without interacting with the waiting journalists. N. Raja Senthoor Pandian, counsel for jailed Jayalalithaa aide V.K. Sasikala, also visited the Commission. On January 6, he filed an application requesting the details of witnesses and evidence against his client. The Commission has asked him to come on Friday. “We have asked to be allowed to argue before the Commission. We are also considering filing a petition due to certain new grievances,” he said.

The Commission has also issued fresh summons to P. Balaji, incumbent member-secretary of the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu. Dr. Balaji, then a professor at the MMC, had attested the left thumbprint of the hospitalised Jayalalithaa, affixed on the nomination papers for AIADMK candidates for three byelections. Dr. Balaji has been asked to appear on January 25.
