The History of the Comics is a panorama of comics worldwide, from their earliest days to the present. The comics echoed the events of their times, and in this series, we can recall the favorite characters of World War I, the Roaring '20's, the Great Depression Era, World War II, the Fab '50's, the Psychedelic '60's, the 70's and '80's, and get a glimpse of what's ahead for the comics in the 21st century, as today's leading artists discuss and show their work.

VOLUME 1
The year 1900 marked the close of the Victorian Era. With the First World War, civilization was transformed, and the old world was gone forever. The growth of the press into a mass medium provided a framework within which cartoons and illustrations were forged into an art form to be known as "the comics." This program highlights the early comic book characters which were popular during the years bracketing the turn of the century, plus those that became famous during WWI, the Roaring '20s and the Depression.
