President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has presented a historic ₦58.18 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly, placing security at the heart of Nigeria’s fiscal priorities. Branded the “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity,” the proposal reflects over two years of tough economic reforms aimed at stabilising the economy, restoring investor confidence and delivering inclusive growth.
The budget represents 3.87% of GDP, with projected revenue of ₦34.33 trillion and a deficit of ₦23.85 trillion (4.28% of GDP). Defence and security receive ₦5.41 trillion, underscoring Tinubu’s resolve to confront insecurity. He declared that all armed groups operating outside state authority would now be treated as terrorists, warning financiers and enablers of severe consequences.
Other major allocations include ₦26.08 trillion for capital expenditure, ₦15.52 trillion for debt servicing, ₦3.56 trillion for infrastructure, ₦3.52 trillion for education and ₦2.48 trillion for health. Tinubu cited improving GDP growth, easing inflation, rising reserves and stronger revenues as signs of economic recovery, assuring Nigerians that their sacrifices are yielding results.
