The restaurant may be refreshed but it's still basically the same. Mel’s Drive In Diner has vintage cars parked outside, such as a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, a 1958 Ford Thunderbird, and a 1960 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Mel’s Drive In Diner was founded by Mel Weiss and Harold Dobbs in 1947, and they expanded to 11 locations in San Francisco by 1954. Mel’s Drive In Diner was used as a location in other movies and TV shows, such as Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, Alice, and Melrose Place.
