About the Berlin Philharmonic Organ:

The organ of the Philharmonie Berlin is an extraordinary masterpiece, both visually stunning and musically unparalleled. Built by Karl Schuke in 1965, this magnificent instrument boasts 90 stops and over 6,500 pipes, making it one of the most impressive concert hall organs in the world. It’s the second-largest organ in Berlin, only surpassed by the one in the Berlin Cathedral.

About Marcel Dupré and his Trois Préludes et Fugues op. 7:

Marcel Dupré was a celebrated French organist, composer, and pedagogue who made significant contributions to the organ repertoire. Among his early works, the Trois Préludes et Fugues, Op. 7, stand out as masterpieces. Composed as early as 1912, during a period when Dupré was preparing for the prestigious Prix de Rome competition, these pieces were initially considered too difficult to be published. However, their technical brilliance and artistic depth eventually gained widespread acclaim, leading to their publication in 1920.

The second Prélude et Fugue in F minor, offers a striking contrast to the first piece, not only in key but also in character. The Prélude features a serene, flowing melody with a sense of elegy, accompanied by delicate broken semiquavers in an elegant registration, using gamba and octavin stops. This melody then serves as the foundation for the Fugue. The Fugue itself is austere and appears almost infinite, with its subject meticulously developed in subtle 8' stops. As it reaches its conclusion, the Fugue gently dissolves into silence with the final chord.
