New Oyster Reefs In Pamlico Sound, NC

Описание к видео New Oyster Reefs In Pamlico Sound, NC

After dumping roughly 52 acres worth of boulder-sized, limestone rip rap on the bottom of the Pamlico Sound, NC State researchers returned to count the oysters that settled on the rip rap.

Oyster populations are at a historic lows compared to a hundred years ago, and are a commercially important species. Creating these reefs will not only perpetuate the reef, but the larvae that are spawned from this reef will be dispersed to other areas that are actually open to fishing.
