Rochelle Elizalde Ladd was one of the dynamic people that made Noriega Hotel so special. Her cousin, Michele Morgan-Brown Magyar, Rochelle's, shared the sad news that Rochelle left this earthly world Sunday evening, January 8, 2023. Rochelle was the daughter of Louie and Janice Elizalde.

Brothers, Albert and Louie Elizalde, took over the management of the Noriega Hotel, when their mother Grace passed away in 1974. Louie married Janice Miller. They had four children, Rochelle, Linda, Grace and Cindy. When Louie died, Janice took over the Noriega’s daily operations with the help of daughters Rochelle and Linda. Brianna Ladd kept the business going until the pandemic made it difficult to continue.

This video is a tribute to the Noriega Family, the Elizalde Family, and extended family, cooks, servers and all that kept the restaurant and boarding house going for so long. The Noriega Hotel will continue to live on in the collective memories of all who shared a glass and passed a serving dish to their neighbors at these loving tables. And to those storytellers who stretched the truth, told a tall tale of the fish or game that got away, may this institution - The Basque People's House - live on forever!
