Tips on How to Fundraise for your PTO or PTA

Summary:
Fundraising isn't always intuitive. There are some pieces of knowledge that can greatly impact your bottom line and goal to keep families involved in your PTO efforts.

Say "Thank You" often!

When you are writing or communicating about giving, pretend you are speaking to just one person! Saying "we" or "our" is far less meaningful to a donor.

Write at a 6th Grade Reading Level (Can find this info in Word under "Editor"--- "Insights" -- Document Stats -- Flesch Kincaid Reading Level)

ACTION STEP: On your next mass communication - make sure that your writing matches those rules above.

Schedule "low work" fundraisers like a trampoline park event, or a day at Chuck E Cheese, during the breaks where most families aren't traveling (Fall Break, Midwinter Break)

Give the people what they want! Choose fundraisers that are unique or personal. Families don't want coupons... and often would rather just give cash. Consider branded candles or a more personal fundraiser like "Art to Remember."

Report back on your work. After an event, communicate to families and staff how much money was made and where it is going!

If you aren't a 501c(3) organization - consider it. It gives you independence to use funds as you best see fit.

Consider creating an attractive Annual Report to show families (your donors) how their money has made an impact.
