Chris explains in his own words why he's running for School Board in Manchester's Ward 7:

"My name is Chris Potter, and I’m a candidate for school board in Manchester’s Ward 7.

"I worked in our schools myself the past four years, collaborating with teachers and principals as the City Year manager at Parker-Varney Elementary School.

"I coached our seven full-time volunteers to provide quality instruction, helping students get caught up to grade level in reading, writing, and math.

"I also helped implement the innovative programs that won Parker-Varney the New Hampshire School of the Year award. We use data to understand each student’s learning needs and provide tailored instruction. We use Project Based Learning to teach students the problem solving and teamwork skills that are critical in today’s workforce. And we use FIRST Robotics to give students a head start in winning today’s high-paying jobs.

"This is the difference between me and my opponent, whose education experience began in the 1950’s. My education experience is recent. I’ve worked in our schools implementing the innovative programs that are preparing our students for today’s workforce. Imagine our own kids filling the new, high-paying jobs in the Millyard.

"My first priority is to ensure all our students have the opportunity to grow into strong Manchester citizens. That means filling our paraprofessional and substitute teacher vacancies, offering gifted programs, and giving tailored instruction like Parker-Varney does. And for students facing challenges at home, it means strengthening parent engagement and adding social workers to school staff.

"When our schools offer the these supports, Manchester will have a strong economy, less crime and vagrancy, and a generation of civically engaged residents.

"I came to Manchester in 2012 to serve in City Year and I’ve never left because I love this city and its people. I have found a wonderful community here, a wonderful place to live. I want to ensure it has a bright future by investing in our next generation.

"If you cast your vote for me, I will use the experience I’ve gained working in our schools to ensure all our students develop into strong Manchester citizens."
