Questioning intuition builds the relationship with inner child

Don't dismiss intuition or gut entirely, but also don't give it free rein. If you give it free rein, you're letting a five-year-old drive the car. That may work sometimes. You know where it works? It works when you surround yourself with other people who are doing the same thing. You gather all the people that do operate that way, and then we go have a party together, and we all have this little trauma-informed five-year-olds crashing their cars into each other. And then we're like, woo, that's so much fun! And there's a time and a place for that. But yeah, I just won't get on board with the idea that, like, just follow your gut at all times, and it's somehow intrinsically right. Have the conversation. And it turns out, when you have the conversation, that inner child is, oh, whoever's up there cares about me. I really want to go get that cookie. And mom or dad shows up, which is the adult mind, and says, I hear you, and I care about what you desire, and I would really like to help you achieve that. But we have to do it within the confines of safety. And if I just let you go grab that cookie, we're not going to end up in a safe place. And so let me help you get there, and I'm looking out for both of us. #shorts
