TEXTILE TOUR with Massimo Barili in Prato, Italy (how fabric is made)

Meglio tardi che mai! …better late than never! We visited and filmed in Italy last year, touring several mills and textile manufacturers. Textile Tour with Massimo Barili, wraps up the series.

While there, we learned an interesting tidbit as to how Prato and textiles came to be. In the previous century, Prato often received second dibs, after Milan, on wool raw materials. Therefore, they started the process of regenerating old clothes into new yarn, over 100 years ago! Watch and see how they sort and clip trims off of old clothes.

This second choice of raw materials motivated Prato into creating the best textiles possible. This region continues to bring the most innovative and luxurious fabrics to the world.

Another industry insider tidbit... Italy is known for its finishing! Watch as Massimo walks us through the stages of textile production, including different forms of finishing that make each material unique.

Interesting facts:
*It takes half, to one full day to set up the loom for weaving.
*It takes approximately 10-15 minutes to weave 1 meter or fabric.
