EIA is a procedure that evaluates the environmental implication of a proposed or existing project prior to its development. It assesses the environmental impacts of a planned project or development, considering the positives and negatives as well the inter-related socioeconomic, cultural, and human-health aspects related with a development project. EIA is used as a tool to estimate the environmental implications of a project during the planning stage so that the project proponent can take necessary actions to mitigate the negative impacts on the environment. The Government of India makes EIA Report mandatory for Environment Clearance for over 39 listed projects in the schedule as per EIA Notification 2006.
