In February, The Junior Tour Powered by Under Armour invited more than 400 of its best young golfers to Florida for this huge tournament. They came from all over the country… and they did NOT disappoint.

The best golfers deserve to compete on the best golf courses and Saddlebrook Golf Resort near Tampa, Florida is just that: THE BEST.

Before the tourney, a few junior golfers were invited to take the podium for the first ever Junior Tour Press Conference, where they fielded questions just like the pros! These amazing junior golfers eventually put down the mics, picked up their clubs & let their skills do the talking.

In the 6-8 year-old division, several players shot par or better on the first day of the tournament including: Eli Seals, Colin O’Bannon, Jionni Urbina, Cameron Swindle, Tobias Gordic-Ronderos, Isaiah Joseph and Joshua Fleming. Simon Bustos from Chile put together two awesome rounds to shoot 2-under for the tournament, good enough for a Third Place finish. South Carolina’s Rilen Kozic come out on fire and shot a 4-under par 31 on the first day, which helped him secure second place for the tournament. But no one was hotter that Joshua Hong. This younger golfer out of Georgia shot an incredible 5-under par 30 on the first day, and he managed to shave off another stroke on Day 2 to finished 6-under for the tournament, 2 shots better than the field. Joshua Hong is your 8 year-old Champion of the 2022 Winter Nationals.

Moving up an age group to the 9, 10 and 11 year-olds, 7 players were under par after the first day of competition on the Palmer Course, including Asher Sisk, Niko Gordic-Ronderos, Dev Malik, Logan McGinn and David Cochran. No one was playing better than Matthew Marigliano in the first round. This New Jersey native who now calls South Florida home carded a 64 on Day 1, which was 7-under par! Noah Manly and Davis Petty had their sites set on going low on Day 2. Noah, who’s from Winter Park, FL, shot an impressive 65 on Sunday, giving him a 2-day score of 9-under. But Davis Petty wasn’t going to accept anything but first place. This Spartanburg, South Carolina native backed up his confidence in the pre-tourney press conference, shooting a 67 in the first round, and an even better 64 in Round 2. That put Davis at 11-under for the tourney & that put the big Champion Trophy squarely in his hands. Davis Petty is your 11 year-old 2022 Winter Nationals Champion… which is his second straight Under Armour National Championship.

The Saddlebrook Golf Course proved to be quite the challenge for the 12 to 14 year-olds. Out of the 130 golfers in this age division, no one was able to finish under par on Saturday. In fact, only one golfer, Dawson Szabo, was able to shoot par in Round 1. Dawson would finish the tourney in 5th Place as four other golfers charged up the leaderboard on Sunday. Bento Assis, who won the 2020 Summer Nationals, finished in 4th place this year. That’s pretty amazing considering Bento is currently an 11 year-old competing in the 12-14 year-old division. South Florida’s Landon Murray had 7 birdies on Sunday to catapult himself into Third Place. Another Floridian, Jake Macdonald, finished strong, birdie-ing the final hole to become one of just 2 golfers who were able to shoot par are better in the second round of the tournament. But the only player in the entire age division to post a red number all weekend was Miami’s Lorenzo Rodriguez. He was 1-under on Sunday, which was good enough to edge out Jake Macdonald by one stroke. And that makes Lorenzo Rodriguez a three-peat National Champion after he won both the Summer and Winter Nationals in 2021!! Congrats Lorenzo!!

The big boys teed it up on the Lexington Oaks and Lake Geneva Golf Courses. In that 15 to 18 year-old division, Sam Telljohann, out of the Baltimore area, posted back to-back 76’s to Finish in the Top 5. Patrick Bond carded the lowest score in the division on Sunday with a 73, which allowed this hometown favorite out of the Tampa Bay Area to jet up to 4th Place. Miami Beach’s own Mason Keisch grabbed 3rd Place, which is awesome considering he’s one of the youngest golfers in this age division. 2nd Place goes to Eddie Lainhart. Last year’s Winter Nationals Champion had another strong showing this year, as Eddie proudly led his led his Sarasota/Port Charlotte Team to a Junior Tour Team victory. The Top Spot this year is snagged by Connor DeMichele. This 18 year-old golf phenom out of Sarasota, FL did his hometown Laurel Oak Country Club proud by being the only golfer in this age group to shoot under par on Saturday. Connor won the 2020 Summer Nationals, now he’s the 2022 Winter Nationals Champion, as well… AND Connor was also the winner for the $1,250 scholarship to a deserving senior.

A big congrats goes out to the 435 junior golfers who competed in the 2022 Winter Nationals. You are all extraordinary athletes!
