Dream11, India’s largest fantasy sports platform, has halted all paid contests and shifted entirely to a free-to-play social gaming model following the enactment of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Law, 2025. The new legislation bans real-money games—whether skill-based or chance-based—and imposes strict penalties for violations. CEO Harsh Jain confirmed the move in an official statement: “We have always been a law-abiding company and will fully comply with the new law. Today we stopped all paid contests and pivoted to a free-to-play online social game. See you in our second innings.” With roughly 90% of its ₹9,600 crore FY24-25 revenue derived from paid contests, Dream11 now plans to focus on its other verticals—FanCode, DreamSetGo, Dream Game Studios—and the Dream Sports Foundation. The company’s future as Team India’s jersey sponsor also hangs in the balance pending BCCI approval under the new regulations.
