Rachel "Bunny" Mellon | Jewellery Collection

Rachel "Bunny" Mellon collected anything she found beautiful—which was everything. From simple objects like baskets, wooden walking sticks and topiaries to masterpieces by Van Gogh and contemporary works by Rothko to engraved silver pill boxes and elaborate jewelry designs by Jean Schlumberger.

"She appreciated everything and everyone at every level for what it was or who they were, " says Mitchell Merling, curator of the Mellon Collection at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. "An advocate of modernism and tradition, Mrs. Mellon occupied a key position of style in the 20th century and she still has something very relevant to say to us today."
