Iron Age Causeway by Kayak - Green Island, Poole Harbour, Dorset

Four paddlers set out with the fast flowing ebb tide and made it to Brownsea in what seemed like record time - just 20 minutes from Hamworthy. Sticking to the marked channels was clearly the most sensible route and by courtesy of the tide we arrived with a good 35-40 minutes to explore as the causeway emerged from the surface. On this visit three distinct sections appeared and on previous trips having only previously seen one, clearly the high pressure over the area helped keep the tide to the promised low of -0.2m.
The return trip was awesome with greys, golds, pale yellows, mauves and blues growing darker as the twilight deepened - made even more magical by the quiet domed mudflats, the still water before the incoming tide and large numbers of birds squawking in the (otherwise) silence. A slight wind backed from its initial SW to very nearly East and helped us on our way back. 7.1 miles.
